About Junyao Xie

Junyao Xie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Guelph. He received the PhD degree in Process Control from the University of Alberta, and the MASc degree in Mechanical Engineering and BASc degree in Machine Design, Manufacturing, and Automation from the China University of Petroleum, Beijing. Prior to joining the University of Guelph, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Instructor at the University of Alberta.

Prof. Xie’s research focuses on 1) developing advanced dynamic machine learning algorithms, control theories, and systems engineering methods with emphasis on dynamic transfer and reinforcement learning, optimization-based control and estimation, and distributed parameter systems; 2) their applications in predictive modeling and smart automation of energy, manufacturing, and agriculture systems toward enhanced safety, intelligence, and sustainability. He has served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Franklin Institute and a Session Chair of the AIChE Annual Meeting, IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), and American Control Conference (ACC).
